Air Quality Action Day declared for Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Monday, July 5, 2010

Date: Tuesday, July 6, 2010
Action Day?: Yes (Ozone and PM2.5)
Temperature: Upper 90s

Discussion:
On Tuesday, expect mostly sunny conditions to remain over our area as a ridge of high pressure remains in place over the Mid-Atlantic states. The combination of the high and the sunny skies will allow temperatures to reach into the upper 90s (very close to 100 in some areas). Air quality levels over the region are going to be impacted as well. Another full day of sun along with light westerly flow will help to keep ozone in the low Code ORANGE range. PM 2.5 levels will increase even further as the very stagnant pattern continues to limit vertical mixing across the area. This on top of the likelihood of an inversion forming in the morning, helping PM 2.5 levels to climb earlier in the day, is why PM 2.5 levels are expected to reach into the Code ORANGE threshold.
